Compassionate Eye Care for Your Children
We strive to make each child’s visit to the eye doctor inviting and fun! From the first eye exam to their first pair of contact lenses, our doctors and technicians will create a warm, caring environment.
Eye exams are important for everyone, especially children as they grow up. Examining your child can detect and prevent visual developmental issues and even control the progression of myopia.
Our team is here to care for your child’s eye health from infancy to adulthood.
The Importance of Children’s Eye Exams
Your child’s vision constantly develops from birth till young adulthood. This development helps them hone the visual skills they need for everyday life, but eye issues can potentially develop during this time, affecting their vision and eye health.
Eye problems like refractive errors may seem insignificant, but an undiagnosed condition can affect your child’s school performance, self-esteem, and social interactions. Approximately 80% of learning is visual for children, so a problem may have more impact than you think.
Eye problems can develop in childhood, but regular eye exams can help protect your child’s vision and eye health. Watching for signs of an eye problem in your child can be helpful in knowing when to see an optometrist. We have the technology and knowledge to identify eye conditions in their early stages to help protect and preserve your child’s vision.
Eye Exam Frequency
Children need many eye exams as they grow up to help assess how their vision is working and developing. Your child develops new visual skills with time, and our eye exams become more comprehensive as they grow to accommodate this. We check all aspects of your child’s vision so they can enjoy clear vision and good eye health.
According to the American Optometric Association, your child should have eye exams on the following schedule:
- Their first exam between 6–12 months old
- At least one exam between 3–5 years old
- Annual exams from ages 6–17
